Fathers Day Guide 2020

The countdown is on – Father’s Day is next weekend! On Sunday 21st June we will have an excuse to dedicate a whole day to celebrate the special Dad or Father figure in our lives.

This year will be different to normal, with lockdown and COVID-19 meaning we may not be able to visit our families or give them a hug. But there are still plenty of ways you can surprise your Dad on Father’s Day with a thoughtful gift from a local Kent company or socially distanced activity.

The team here at D & G Florist have put together our top 5 ways you can treat your Dad on Father’s Day. As a local business in Strood, we are lucky to be surrounded  by other independent businesses who have been supporting the local Kent community and have included some of their lovely gift products available for delivery!

Gift for Garden Mad Dad

Does your Dad love gardening or filling the house with plants? Why not treat him to a D &G Florist Gift Voucher – he can then pop along to our Strood shop We are easy to find on Tollgate Lane) and choose from our seasonal selection of garden plants, houseplants and succulents or fresh flowers. He will enjoy adding to his collection and our team can help him pick out the perfect thing!

Our D & G Gift Vouchers start from £10 and can be made up to a value of your choice (multiples of £5 and £10), we can also post the gift vouchers out directly to your Dad or you can collect from our shop in Strood.

Brownies & Zoom

If your dad is a chocoholic, treat him to some award-winning brownies posted direct too him from Love Brownies. With stores dotted across Canterbury, London and Surrey selling scrumptious flavours such as chocolate orange brownie and coconut brownie – which you can now order online for delivery.

Stroll round sunny Strood

If the weather on Father’s Day is beautifully sunny (or pull on your wellies if you can brave the rain!), arrange a socially distanced stroll of the local Strood area. Spend some quality time together exploring the beautiful scenery and wildlife that surrounds us  - Kent is affectionately  known as the “Garden of England” for a very good reason!

We love this 7.5km circular family walk from Explore Kent, starting from Strood train station and takes in sights of Rochester’s fairy-tale castle, River Medway wildlife and panoramic views of the countryside. It takes a couple of hours at a leisurely pace, so pack your favourite drink and some snacks to enjoy along the way.

Perfect Puzzles

One of the bestselling products during lockdown – the good old traditional puzzle! We love the extensive range that Francis Iles Gallery, whose shop is located on Rochester High Street, have available to order online for delivery directly to Dad. Guaranteed to keep him entertained for hours, check out their range of puzzles online now!

Craft Beer Father

If your Papa loves a good craft beer from the local pub, why not deliver a pint or two for him to enjoy on Father’s Day at home? Kent based Westerham Brewery have been producing award-winning craft beers since 2004 and can offer home delivery or click & collect from their taproom on the outskirts of Stevenage.

Choose a selection for your Dad to enjoy sampling - from chocolate stouts, summer pale ales, lighter lagers and traditional Kent style beers.

Night In at the Theatre

Although we can’t currently enjoy a trip to the theatre together, the National Theatre can bring the  action to your living room instead! They are showing for free via You Tube world-class productions, with a different one showing each week – from Shakespeare’s famous Macbeth, comedy One Man, Two Guvnors to adaptations of popular novels like Treasure Island.

So grab some popcorn and glass of fizz, get comfy on the sofa and enjoy watching some amazing theatre that arty Dads and all the family will love to experience.
